Sherry Denton, from the Diocese of Western Kansas, was recently appointed to a six-year term as a member of the national church’s Executive Council.
Denton became familiar with Province VII after working with the Commission on Ministry in her diocese. Before her election to the Executive Council, she served two consecutive terms as Lay Person at Large for the Province.
Denton lives in Salina, Kansas, and attends Church of the Incarnation, where she’s served as lay reader and senior warden, among other duties.
Denton finds the Executive Council to be “a great group

that has worked hard to let us know how the national church functions and to help us get acquainted with each other.” She anticipates that her time on the Council will be particularly interesting since a new Presiding Bishop will come on board midterm. “It’s a challenging time,” Denton added, “but, in spite of our geography, we have a lot in common.
She’s particularly excited about the national church’s new ad campaign, which she think will help invigorate the church’s ministry. “We hope young families and young people will think of the Episcopal Church when they’re looking for a church home,” Denton concluded.
