A Message from New
ECW President Marcia Himes

In these first few days after the election of the new ECW Board, I have barely had time to figure out what it all means.

My job at this Triennial meeting has been managing the ECW Secretariat. Since Monday’s election, I find that I am trying to juggle that obligation and find my way into the new position as the ECW Board president. It seems sometimes that I have been dropped into the middle of a Cuisinart. As I thought about that, I realized that we all have those balancing challenges. Family, career, church, other organizational commitments and maybe even finding time for ourselves are the everyday routine for most of us.

I have had quick conversations and brief meetings with the rest of the board that will be serving you over these next three years. I am excited to get to know these talented and committed women better. We will be doing our best to listen to you, to hear your concerns, your suggestions and especially the stories of the works being done all across this country by the women of The Episcopal Church.

We heard last week from Bishop Michael Curry at the UTO dinner that there is one word from scripture we need to remember: “Go!” Then Wednesday, during the Diocese of Los Angeles Night, we heard the band sing “God is rolling with you.” That, for me, will be what I take forward from this Triennial. It is always better to travel with a friend, and what better companion could there be than our Lord.

I hope each of you will go home with something special. Maybe it will be some new idea or skill that will help grow your ministry. Maybe it will be a new or renewed friendship. Maybe it will be a set of fresh eyes with which to see the place you have been planted. Maybe it will be a desire for a new mission. But whatever it is, just remember: Go!

ECW Prayer

Almighty God, we pray that You will bless our
work in mission and ministry in the world.
Help us to pray fervently, labor diligently and
give liberally to make known the power of
your love given through your son Jesus Christ.
Let us not forget the lessons from the past nor
fear the challenges of the future. Anoint us
with your grace and shine in our hearts as we
reflect your light throughout the world. Amen.
