The Reverend James P. Haney, retired rector of St. Christopher’s in Lubbock, Texas, has been Province VII’s treasurer for the past 11 years.
Haney, who grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, became an Episcopalian during his college years. He first came to Texas in the early 1960’s as a petroleum engineer, but, he says, "I didn’t want to do that for the rest of my life."
Haney left for the East Coast, attending the Episcopal Theological Seminary in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 1965, he returned to Texas as rector of St. Mark’s in Coleman. Three years later, he entered the Navy as a chaplain, serving in both the U.S. and in Vietnam. After his discharge, Haney once again came back to Texas, serving as associate rector at St. John’s in Odessa and later as chaplain at West Texas State in Canyon. In 1979, Haney went to St. Christopher’s in Lubbock. |
