Chair of the Division of College Ministry for the Diocese of Texas, Sandi received her B.A. in Journalism and Public Relations from the University of Oklahoma in 1979 and her M.Div. from Sewanee in 1998. She was called to the campus ministry at Texas A&M and Blinn College in 1999.
Prior to her ordination, Sandi worked in development and fund-raising for various organizations in Austin, including KLRU (Austin's Public Broadcasting System) and the Children's Miracle Network. Though not on staff at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in College Station, she often assists with worship and other activities there.
In addition to working tirelessly to expand college ministry in her diocese, Sandi has brought innovation to the Episcopal ministry at Texas A&M. Chief among these changes have been the creation of Cafe Canterbury, an on-site coffee house, and the Canterbury Spirituality Center, a place where students can learn about modes of prayer in a very hands-on way.
Describing her main interests, Sandi says, "The things most important to me are my relationship with God and my family, my dog, and my friends. I enjoy traveling, my book club, my herb and rose gardens and all the students I meet in ministry and on the Texas A&M campus."
A widow, Sandi has a grown daughter and a grandson, who live in Washington, D.C.

Travel to Gather FREE!
|
Due to the generosity of Province VII, the Diocese of Kansas, Diocese of West Texas, the Episcopal College Mission at Rice University and Texas A&M University the cost of two buses has been fully underwritten. This means students and lay and clergy college ministers may ride one of two buses going to the National College Student Conference, "Gather Around the Table" for FREE. That's right! The cost of transportation is a gift to ensure that as many students as possible have the opportunity to attend this exciting event. The Southern Bus will leave from San Antonio, with stops in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and Lubbock. The Northern Bus will leave from Ft. Smith with stops in either Tulsa or Springfield and Wichita, Kansas. Register on the link found on the post card from this site by October 30, 2010 for $285. After that date registration goes up. Buses will leave on December 27th and arrive back on January 2. The conference is December 28-January 1st. A day of skiing is an option for an additional $60. Registration covers events, housing and food. Please contact the Province VII college coordinator, the Rev. Sandi Mizirl to make a reservation on one of these buses.

A Rising Generation of Leaders
• Through campus ministry the church keeps its baptismal promise to support persons in their life in Christ. We do this in partnership with youth leaders, camp directors, parishes and young adult ministries.
• Many leaders in the church have been involved with campus ministry, and point to these ministries as pivotal moments in their faith development and religious commitment.
• Campus ministry is an effective investment in the leadership, life and growth of the church and requires the financial and relational commitment of the parish and the diocesan community as a whole in order to be successful, healthy and sustainable.
A Necessary Community
• College students are in a transitional place developmentally which calls for a creation of a peer community. In such groups, individual faith and religious commitments are challenged, explored and strengthened.
• Campus ministries serve as places of community which may center around shared meals, regular worship, pastoral care, community service and other encounters with Episcopal ministries.
A Place For Mentoring & Spiritual Formation
•CampusministryisalivelyplaceformentoringtheChristianformationofbothseekersandthosewhogrew up in our churches.
• In campus ministry students are recognized, challenged, supported, inspired and engaged in honest dialogue around their faith in order to foster their potential.
A Source of Imagination & Vision
• Campus ministries provide a culture where students can imagine and explore new possibilities for ministry. These imagined possibilities are necessary for the continued vitality of the church and for God’s mission in the world.
• In campus ministry we equip students with the tools of our tradition for facing the tough ethical, moral, religious, relational and ecological challenges of a complex world.
