Susan Hanson, a resident of San Marcos, Texas, has been Province 7 Coordinator for Ministry in Higher Education since September 2004.
A longtime member of the English faculty at Texas State University-San Marcos, she served as Episcopal chaplain there from 1996-2007.
For 20 years, Susan also worked as a journalist, writing primarily feature stories, book reviews, and a weekly column that focused on nature, among other things.
Her essay collection, Icons of Loss and Grace: Moments from the Natural World, was published by Texas Tech University Press in 2004.
What Wildness Is This: Women Write about the Southwest, a collection she co-edited, was released by the University of Texas Press in 2007.
Her work has also appeared in Earthlight, Writing Nature, ISLE (Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and Environment), Northern Lights, Southwestern American Literature, and Texas Parks & Wildlife. Her essay "Deep in the Heart: A Texan Looks at the Night Sky" will appear in the collection Let There Be Night: Testimony on Behalf of the Dark, to be published by the University of Nevada Press in 2008.
Susan lives with her husband, Larry, and has a grown daughter in Austin. She enjoys native plant gardening, camping and hiking, reading mysteries, doing photography, and working on the web sites she maintains--including this one.

What is the purpose of this Network’s ministry? To encourage student leadership, to be a resource and network for chaplains, to serve as an advocate for campus ministry to the larger church, to develop a community that engages in worship, study, and service.

S.E.E. the Light - 2008 Gathering of Episcopal College and University Students |
Please join us from December 28, 2008-Jan 1, 2009 at the YMCA of the Rockies,, Estes Park, CO for Gather, an event planned and designed by Episcopalian college students for other college students within the Episcopal Church. Throughout our 5 days together, we will explore our theme of "Seek, Encounter, and Embody (SEE) the Light" with speakers, workshop leaders and with each other, while spending time in worship rooted in Episcopal traditions from around the world. Skiing, snowshoeing, and other activities taking advantage of Colorado's natural beauty will also be available. We hope you will join us as we GATHER to meet God, connect with other young Episcopalians, and celebrate the New Year in the beautiful Rocky Mountains.
Registration costs includes all meals, accommodation and program. More

The Rev. Douglas Fenton (right), staff officer for the Young Adult & Higher Education Ministries office of the Episcopal Church, joins Diocese of Honduras Canon to the Ordinary Albert Brooks (left) and Oscar Ortega, national coordinator for campus ministry programs at San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa, to officially open the Ministerio Episcopal Club Canterbury at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras campus in San Pedro Sula.
Campus ministries from Province 7 contributed $1500 toward the two-year grant that helped make this ministry possible. Province 7 ministries will be asked to make a similar contribution this fall. More  |
